HAWAIIPETPHOTOS NEWS: Two Wives Make New Jersey Race One To Remember

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

On Sunday, August 22, 2010, at Monmouth Park, the 7th Race included two horses, one named “My Wife Knows Everything” and the other called “The Wife Doesn’t Know.”  As if by fate, as they turned for home, the race came down to those two.

Here is the transcript of the final call by track announcer Larry Collmus:

Into the final furlong, “My Wife Knows Everything.” “The Wife Doesn’t Know.”  They are one and two. Of course they are.

“My Wife Knows Everything” in front.  To the outside, “The Wife Doesn’t Know.”

“My Wife Knows Everything.”

“My Wife Doesn’t Know.”

“My Wife Knows Everything,” more than “The Wife Doesn’t Know.”

WHEW!

Miss Tallahassee showed…wonder what the wives thought of that?!

BOOK’ER, DAN’O! Lindsay Goes to Jail!

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

We are devastated!

For weeks, like many, we were anticipating the photos of the ridiculously foolish Lindsay Lohan being shackled and hauled away to the “Paris Hilton Celebrity Isolation Cell.”  Today, Judge Marsha Revel inhumanely denied us that satisfaction.  Tabloid journalism built this moment up, and a judge, who had no reason to be nice to the spoiled former Disney starlet, had the cameras turned off to preserve Miss Lohan’s dignity.  WHAT ABOUT US?!

Then, to add to the injury, we learned that Lindsay’s lockup will impact her upcoming projects.  UPCOMING PROJECTS?!  Who was the Hollywood genius who felt that was a brilliant move?

So, for those who have awaited the shots of Lindsay in non-fashion bracelets, Hawaiipetphotos.com offers a Chihuahua substitute.  The deal is the puppy is smarter.

Deb McGuire Oahu pet photographer, Deb McGuire, offers caged chihuahua as Lindsay Lohan proxy

"Lindsay, like OMG, I can TOTALLY relate!"

Hawaii Pet Photography Released From Purgatory!!!

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

Three days…three days of stress and confusion caused by the Chinese invasion of our site. Hawaiipetphotos.com’s blog was hit by malware. Unfortunately, the bad code struck on the holiday weekend, and resolution was not fast. Once everyone returned to work, the clean up and restoration of our site’s credibility was restored in a few hours. Kudos to the folks at CMD, WordPress, and Google for their hardwork. We learned so much this weekend.

One of the things that was so awesome was the attention that our part-time competitors paid to our hardship. They actually helped to drive our google ratings even higher. When their identities were revealed as we attempted to clean up the mess, we were so grateful that they cared enough to follow our plight. Hawaiipetphotos was flattered actually. You know who you are in Aiea, Kailua, Honolulu and the North Shore. Who knew that your website icons would ride along with your IP addresses? Hmmm, you might want to work on that.

If we had not been hacked this weekend, this blog would have focused only on our Saturday shoot at Hickam AFB. We love the venue and this weekend’s puppy dog was absolutely a joy to photograph. We have had multiple sessions at Hickam and the venues and furry friends have all been wonderful.

REALITY: Lindsay Lohan’s going to prison… Bethenny Frankel did look like a Disco Ball at her Shower (her quote not mine)… Jillian and Ed are the latest “Bachelorette” disaster (maybe she is ready to take back Jake)… Chris, what’s up with that “we don’t care about the dog” stuff on the Jake and Vienna reunion… Tiger Woods imitated a golfer this past weekend as his divorce details leaked in gossip media.

Hawaiipetphotos.com is thrilled to be out of Purgatory.

OAHU PET PHOTOGRAPHER LAMENTS: THE SWALLOWS HAVE BYPASSED CAPISTRANO

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

HawaiiPetPhotos.com tuned into NPR’s “All Things Considered” during an oddly timed foray into Honolulu drive time traffic.  As if by kismet, the first story up after my channel change was: “Famed Swallows Find New Home in Country Club.”  I nearly hit the car in front of me.

No, I was not upset that they had chosen to move to a country club.  THEY BYPASSED THE SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO MISSION.  The mission was famous for two things:

First, for over 200 years, the swallows have migrated to the mission from their winter home in Argentina.

Second, my husband and I married at the mission.

Ordinarily, Deb McGuire Photography does not suffer from paranoid anxieties, but consider this, the restaurant where my husband and I met blew up…literally exploded.  And now this.

Anyone know a good Kahuna that could chase away the evil spirits.

The swallows’ home this year is the Vellano Country Club in Chino Hils, CA.  Link to the NPR story: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=127600216

2010 2nd Annual Hawaii Wiener Derby: The Winners

Monday, May 31st, 2010

As Deb McGuire Photography begins to load the photos from this Saturday’s 2nd Annual Hawaii Wiener Derby, we will recap the event.

There were two puppy heats and a final.  Moving on from the first heat were Clipper, Ginger, and Maka.  Owner David Czar describes Clipper as “look(ing) as though he fell in some paint.”  Ginger likes orange toys and helps with chores like laundry, digging and gardening.  Maka has only one eye, but that obviously did not affect her in heat number one.  Maka is a very happy little girl.

From puppy heat number 2 of this year’s Hawaii Wiener Derby, Koko Nut, Kainalu, and Winston advanced.  Koko is all doxie minus 1/8 terrier.  She has two big sisters, a Golden and a lab/ridgeback…she will have her hands full at the food bowl.  Kainala is a mini…a mini dapple doxie.  He is a speedster though.  Winston is a T-Rex and likes to rip and tear.

In the finals, Winston was victorious.  Kainula placed second.

The adult heats went 1-5 and semifinal 1, then 6-11 and semifinal 2, and then the final.  Only one doxie from each of the heats went to the semifinals, and the top 3 finishers in each semi moved to the final.

Lucian took heat 1, Ruby won heat 2, Buster won 3, Waffles bested the field in heat 4, and Honey took heat 5.  In the first semifinal, Lucian, Buster and Waffles advanced.  Lucian loves his squeaky toy and going to the park.  Buster Brown stands on his hind legs to beg and apparently that little maneuver warms his mother’s (Aimee Chang) heart.  Waffles likes to lick your face… right after he has licked your toes…there’s some lovin’ for ya.

We took a short lunch break, and then moved on to head numbers 6-11.  In heat 6, Dash dashed the hopes of his competition, Cocoa Puff blew away the field in heat 7, Captain took heat 8, Andy won 9, Jax won 10, and Oscar led the way in 11.  Dash, Captain, and Jax advanced from the second semifinal.  Bonnie Lau named Dash even before meeting her little one.  ”She was small, black and long.  She’s lived up to her name and more by running circles around her playmates.”  Captain is definitely a part of his human family.  He loves chasing balls or just hanging out.  Jamie Higa describes her Jax as the cutest doxie ever.  That is just the type of “throw-down” you want to put out there before a big race.

In the finals of the 2010 Second Annual Hawaii Wiener Derby, Lucian wore red, Buster orange, Waffles wore yellow, Dash green, Captain blue, and Jax wore purple.  The race… well, as the official photographer, it all seemed like a blur…just kidding.  The race was well contested.  In the end, Lucian was victorious.  Lucian won, Dash placed second and Captain showed third.

The 2010 2nd Annual Hawaii Wiener Derby Champion, Lucian is the pride of Ashlyn Rodriguez of Honolulu.  Lucian is a year old and weighs 7 pounds.

Dash, the second place finisher, is Bonnie Lau’s little girl.  Dash is also from Honolulu.  She is 2 and weighs 13 pounds.

Captain is the apple of owner Mapuana Lew’s eye.  Captain is also a Honolulu native.  Captain is 1 1/2 years old and weighs 14 pounds.

From Deb McGuire Photography (hawaiipetphotos.com): Congratulations to all the racers and their families! And MAHALO!  You made the 2010 2nd Annual Hawaii Wiener Derby a truly unforgettable experience.  SEE YOU NEXT YEAR FOR NUMBER THREE!!!

OAHU PET PHOTOGRAPHER ASKS: Cats, Water, Good Idea?!

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

Healthy Pet, Spring 2010:  “Walking on underwater treadmills helps dogs and cats recover”

The article, written by Sandra Hudson, BS, MBA, CCRP, has one fatal flaw.  WHAT CAT ARE YOU GOING TO GET ON AN UNDERWATER TREADMILL?!

Yeah, Yeah, it’s rehab…but I don’t see either of my cats getting neck deep in an aquarium to do a few minutes on a treadmill.  Magic flicks her paws if she gets just a bit of water on them.  Shammy will not even approach if water is barely dripping from the gutter’s downspout.

“The thermal effects of water help relax dogs and even cats.”  Sorry, I’m not buying the relaxing part at all.  The mere thought of being tossed or even placed into water would probably cause Magic heart failure.

Once I got passed the early shock of the subject matter, I read the article with a more serious mindset.  The article actually considers the challenges of water therapy in the case of the average household feline:

“Cats require special techniques.  First, the environment must be quiet and relaxed.  Before placing the cat on the treadmill the therapist will activate the belt and raise the water level to the desired height.  The water temperature will be set between 88 and 92 degrees Fahrenheit.  (THIS IS MY FAVORITE PART!!)  The therapist will (DRUM ROLL) enter the tank first and will remain in the tank with the cat (RIM SHOT!!!) during the entire exercise…”

I’m sorry.  The thought of putting either of my cats in water and being with them is just plain scary.  Ultimately, both of us could end up with sutures at the end of the experience.

HAWAIIPETPHOTOS.COM admires people like Sandra who are able to look passed the impossible to make life better for our injured or ill pets.  Anyone who is willing to climb into a tank full of water with a cat deserves respect.

Hawaii Pet Photos-Gray Days for a Gray Cat!

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010
HawaiiPetPhotos.com's own Sham-Rock naps in Coconut Tree

http://www.hawaiipetphotos.com

HawaiiPetPhotos.com is suffering through climate change.  Maybe our blood is thin, now, but these cloudy April, Windward Oahu days have been cold.  We have pulled out the sweat shirts to fight the morning chill.  On top of the overcast, the Trades have been blowing briskly from the North.

The chill affects us all, but Sham-Rock seems most upset.  In fact, he seems downright downtrodden.

Although Shammy is an indoor cat, he relishes his outside time.  He starts each morning with a walk on a leash…yes, on a leash (covered in an earlier blog).   Then, throughout the day, Shammy sits at the kitchen door and begs to go to the courtyard.  After dinner, he gets special time outside with his Dad.

The last few days, however, the Global Cooling (my husband believes he coined that phrase, so he considers it trademarked) has kept him indoors.   He has actually spent the after dinner time begging to return to the kitchen.

Does the lack of sunlight affect cats like it can affect humans?  GOOGLE!  I basically posed that question to the Google search engine.  And, well, apparently, according to the World-Wide-Web, they can.

I read a few entries, but I hit one that had Freud in the title.  Hey, I figured if they had Freud in the title, they had to know pet psychology.  Sunlight stimulates hormone release that uplifts the feline mood.  Gray day equals gray cat…in Shammy’s case literally and figuratively.

We need the Kahunas to start praying for some Sun, a little Global Warming if you please. (Al Gore copyrighted that one).

Hawaii Paw Prints in the Sand-Oahu Pet Photographer

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

IMG_3418Meeting and bonding with so many furry friends is absolutely Deb McGuire Pet Photography’s primary passion and driving motivation for hawaiipetphotos.com. But even Deb admits the island offers so many unique  images. There are lush tropical gardens, mountain waterfalls and numerous surf vistas.

On a recent Sunday morning, Deb met a tiny Chihuahua and her parents on a local a beach. It was sunrise and the beach seemed untouched, raked clean by overnight tides. One gets chills thinking of the pristine shores that the earliest Hawaiians or even Captain Cook encountered.

Enter the Chihuahua! Bam! Pawprints everywhere disturbed the untouched and opened the day.

Hawaii Pet Expo 2009 great Success for Deb McGuire Photography

Hawaii Pet Expo 2009

HawaiiPetPhotos.com presents just a few observations from the Hawaii Pet Expo

  • Overwhelming majority of the humans attending the show brought their pets.
  • So many pet strollers that a stroller with a baby seemed out of place.
  • The oddest pet stroller baby combination occurred Sunday when a relatively new baby was relegated to riding on his mother’s back while the pet rolled around in front of the parents in a spiffy little carriage.
  • Tried to pet a dog being held by its male human. Female human: “You shouldn’t touch, these dogs may not be socialized.”… Then, why did you bring him?!
  • Considering the incredible number of dogs, no altercations took place…hmm, maybe most of the dogs were, in fact, socialized.
  • Poopie-cleanup crew: AWESOME! They wore yellow shirts, had on rubber gloves and moved in quickly to clean and then disinfect the area. They were more impressive than the ground crew at a Major League ballpark or the pit crew on a NASCAR Sunday.
  • We could not have asked for better neighbors. Ron Darby of Pet Hui was on one side and the Newfoundland Club was on the other. Ron had recently featured HawaiiPetPhotos.com on the Pet Hui.
  • Auntie Gin-Gin is a better “Booth Babe” than Tim (the husband). Tim was fired frequently due to his habit of standing in front of the displays. Auntie Gin-Gin was perfect despite having to be scolded by Drs. Kam and Yap for stepping too far away from the booth boundaries. That’s away to bring them in Gin-Gin!!!
  • Most interesting name, “Lint.” The husband did not want a posh and prissy frou-frou dog, but his wife insisted. The husband gave in with a caveat: he got to name the dog.
  • Best poop clean-up without the aid of the aforementioned “Poo Crew:” Denby Dung, Miss Hawaii 2001. When her talented little, rescued pup performed his movement, he and Denby had an audience gathered around. She scooped up the present and received an ovation. Her mother captured the entire event for posterity.
  • A lady with a pet pig named Frederick stopped by the booth. Frederick makes school visits… well at least he did until the school district stopped calling because of Swine Flu! Yeah.
  • Dogs began to mark their favorite booths on Sunday. Once they started, everyone felt the need to mark. It basically converted the Poo Crew to the Pee Crew.

HawaiiPetPhotos.com would like to thank the thousands of folks and the hundreds of pets who stopped to look at my photos and talk to us this weekend at the Hawaii Pet Expo.
