HawaiiPetPhotos Celebrates Mr. September

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

“Mr. September” for the Hawaiian Humane Society Calendar is Kyle. Oahu’s own, Deb McGuire, proudly snapped the photo that was chosen by the Humane Society Calendar Committee.

Kyle is a rescue kitty who proudly accompanies his Mother to many local pet events in his cat stroller.  He lives in Honolulu with his adopted brothers and sisters.

Kyle’s family is very proud.  The honor is absolutely well deserved, not just because Kyle is beautiful, but because of the countless hours that his Mother dedicates to the Hawaiian Humane Society Cat House.  She is there every day.  She cuddles, feeds, cleans poop and does her best to find homes for all the homeless felines.  She has such a huge heart.

Deb McGuire and HawaiiPetPhotos.com congratulate Kyle and his family.  September is indeed a special month.

Oahu Pet Photography & a Hawaii Chihuahua Puppy Party

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

Wow! What a party for Cody Oshiro a one year old Hawaii chihuahua. And I(Deb McGuire Oahu Pet Photography) had the opportunity to photograph the big event. Cody’s mom stopped at nothing to give Cody the best party ever. Cody’s guests were treated to mutt-tinis, a sweet potato birthday cake, a gourmet treat bar, party favors and beautiful floral arrangements. A full-page photo spread of the big event can be seen in the current addition of Hawaii Pet Magazine or check out the screenshot below.

GREENIES GONE WILD

San Francisco Puppy Mill law Deb Mcguire oahu Pet Photographer has thoughts

The idea germinated with best intentions.  Wild, Whacky, Far-Left Leaning city decides that the best way to fight puppy and kitty mills would be to ban puppy and kitty sales in Pet Stores.  But this wild and wonderful town is San Francisco, and even the best of ideas can be taken to the extreme.

Why stop with puppies and kitties?  So-called “pocket pets” are less likely to be adopted if they are taken to the Humane Society.  So, the ban will extend to those tiniest of pets.  Birds…well, everyone knows that birds are wild animals and that they are incredibly intelligent.  Keeping birds as pets is totally wrong.  So, the ban will extend to birds.  Rabbits are already covered by other ordnances, but reptiles, amphibians and fish are unlikely to be covered…until someone decides to fuss.

The aim of the ban is noble indeed, but will the ban really accomplish the intended result…maybe a ban on people is the only true answer to the problem.

Oahu Pet Photographer loves old puppy dogs

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

One of the many reasons pet parents call and book a session with me(Deb McGuire-Oahu Pet Photographer) is that their puppy dog or kitty cat is getting up there in years and they want a good photo of them. And although this Oahu Pet Photographer(me-Deb McGuire-Hawaii Pet Photos) realizes seniors can be a bit more challenging, I love it. Here’s some shots of Tiffi, a 17 year old mini dachshund .

Hawaii Pet Photographer and a yappy dog

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Yep that’s right ….Hawaii Pet Photographer Deb McGuire just photographed the yappiest dog ever. From the time I arrived to the time I left Chloe barked and barked and barked. Only stopping briefly to grab a dog cookie from my trusty Oahu Pet Photography treat bag. It’s a wonder I got any closed-mouth shots at all. I’m sure her neighbors appreciated the early morning wake up call…bark on Chloe!

Custer looking for his toy in the pool(notice it's right next to him}

His name is Custer and he is an expert in detecting drugs and alcohol in Hawaii schools. I (Deb McGuire Pet Photography, hawaiipetphotos, com) recently was commissioned to photograph this Maui dog on his family estate(it’s been in his family since the mid 18oo’s). Custer is 9 years old and is a golden retriever. Confused? I know he doesn’t look like one. He’s called a red fox because of a recessive gene in his DNA. His  facial fur grays faster than the rest of the body fur. He has one toy and he loves it!!! It makes him completely bonkers. It was a blast photographing him. Check out his work website http://interquestk9.com.

Oahu Pet Photographer Deb McGuire & Elephant Law

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

As an elephant owner, I have been trying to find a “Pachyderm-Friendly” town that will allow me to walk my pet.  Thanks to San Francisco, I have found a home. Apparently, I can walk my large eared, cuddly beast down the city streets as long as I keep him on his leash.  My only fear is that he might discover a female elephant while we walk.  Tough to reign in the big guy when a “little girl” saunters by.

NO, I AM NOT REALLY LEAVING HAWAII!!!

I just happened upon this elephant leash law after hearing about San Francisco attempts to ban pet sales.
