Butch lived longer than expected.
His mom, Nancy, contacted me days before this past Christmas. Butch had cancer throughout his body. His Veterinarian predicted that Butch would not live past the New Year. I had intended to shut down for the Holidays, but I couldn’t and wouldn’t miss Butch.
On a beautiful morning, in a Kailua Park, we met Butch, Kasey (his doggy sister), and Nancy. Butch was old and sick, but he was strong. We played tug. He was still playful… still digging for treats.
Not long after that shoot, Nancy and her furry family moved to California. Butch made the move and for a time, he seemed to be doing better… but cancer is cancer, and on March 27th, with mom, Nancy, and sister, Kasey, by his side, Butch died.
Kasey keeps looking for him. She keeps going to the places that Butch would go. Wow, do we know that feeling.

My friend Alyssa told me I better get the tissues out before reading your blog–she was right. Thank you so much for your kind and beautiful words and images–We miss our dear companion Butch so much but are so grateful to have all these wonderful memories. Mahalo for your warm Aloha, Nancy & Kasey
Sending love and aloha to you and Kasey
Thank you Magic, we miss our boy so much–he was such a rascal!
Little Kasey is all love and hugs.
I am making special “field trips” with her to parks with lots of children (her favorite friends) so that she can double up on the lovin’ to help fill the void that has been left with Butch’s passing over.
Thank you for doing a great job on the farewell, it means so much to Nancy.
Butch was a wonderful dog, my Crunchy and Butch were friends we miss him.
Butch would come over and play with the dog toys and he loved the squeak ones
best. Butch lived a great life.
